Follow Data to a Healthy Lifestyle
The Data is in. Changes in lifestyle can be as or more critical in preventing heart disease as any medication. Developing healthy habits can prevent diabetes and many cancers as well as stave off the debilitating effects of dementia.
The http://archinte.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=1108507 (EPIC) study of 23,000 people published in 2009 found that adopting four simple changes in lifestyle could prevent up to 93% of diabetes cases and 81 % of heart attacks. By getting 3.5 hours of exercise a week, eating a nutrient dense plant based diet, not smoking, and maintaining a healthy weight the data showed that a focus on lifestyle was as effective as any medication in preventing most of the causes of metabolic disease.
